Vortex Evac
Vortex Evac was created by Michael Berger and Kyle Avery in 48 hours for the GMTK 2019 Game Jam. The theme for this jam was "Only One". Vortex Evac is a "Single-Stick" Shooter, where the player only has one projectile at their disposal.
The objective is to destroy the capital ship that is assaulting the station.
When the projectile is shot, an opposite force is applied to the player. This is how the player moves. The projectile then returns to the player to be fired again. The player is effectively defenseless while the projectile is in flight, as it is their only means of defense and mobility.
To destroy the capital ship, the player will have to balance precise movement with well timed attacks all while repelling hordes of aliens!

I saved the ship! It took me too long to realize that I have to use the rocket to move. (rtfm) That was a bit of devious genius, and the twist that makes the game fun. Well done.
Really good concept! Other than not seeing myself a lot I also got stuck in walls ahahaha but fun anyway. I think maybe making the bullet come back faster than it leaves might make it a little easier to play? But that would make it less challenging to shoot and avoid things at the same time. Regardless cool game and I love the art.
Thanks for playing! I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it! :)
cool game, great idea, although i had no idea where i was half of the time
Thanks for the feedback! I noticed this issue late into the jam myself. Playing in fullscreen definitely helps but if I were to do this again I would have made the player much more high-contrast. Haha
This is so cool! I fired myself off the edge far too many times xD
That's the best part!
Cool game man! art looks great too! got stuck in walls sometimes. but other wise great work on the theme
Thanks!
